Yellowknife is not just under the Aurora oval however Yellowknife is the best place to see Northern Lights because the weather in Yellowknife is dry which makes the weather more favorable to see Northern Lights. Yellowknife is also flat area and there are no mountains around Yellowknife which gives a clear view without any obstruction to see Northern Lights.
